Snow! The kind of weather I’m revelling in in the Northeast this weekend is perfect for foodies. I love to tuck into holiday baking and cozy comfort meals, big cups of homemade hot chocolate and warming hot toddies.
It also fuels the culinary imagination as you pour out your creative juices doing a lot with the little you find in your fridge and cupboard on the third and fourth and fifth day of a blizzard. Admit it — even if you hate the weather, some of your best meals come from this combination of minimal resources and a bit of extra time stuck inside.
Perhaps what I love most about this kind of weather is that it really makes you think about your food and turns everyone into just a little bit of a seasonal eater. Most days you don’t mind driving out to get any old thing but when you have to walk several blocks in knee-deep snow, you really think about what you want, where to get it, and if it’s really worth it. And then you’re so thankful that you tend to do something really special and often indulgent with it.

I hope you’ll join the conversation and share your favorite blizzard meals as you hopefully delight in the weather as much as I do. If you’re looking for something to get you started, you might try a Rustic Winter Stew from Eat Feed Autumn Winter: 30 Ways to Celebrate When the Mercury Drops.
